Hyundai-Kia become 4th largest automaker in world, overtakes FoMoCo

Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group has officially become the world’s fourth largest automotive manufacturer, according to figures released from the Automotive News Data Center. The Korean automaker has supplanted FoMoCo, as the American manufacturer saw a 30% decline in sales during the first half of 2009.

Ford to refresh 70 to 90 percent of lineup by 2012

FoMoCo’s chief financial officer Lewis Booth said today that the Dearborn automaker plans to refresh 70 to 90 percent of its vehicle lineups by volume in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa by 2012. Giving an analogy of doughnuts, Booth said that Ford is “going to have fresh products.”

Fiat wins approval to buy Bertone, will invest $215.9 million over 3 years

Fiat SpA’s bid for Carrozzeria Bertone was approved Thursday by the Italian government. Fiat won against other bidders including entrepreneurs Gianmario Rossignolo and Domenico Reviglio, Chinese automaker FAW Group Corp. and an unnamed Spanish group.
