Saginaw scrap yard piles up gas guzzlers headed to the shredder

In a dusty scrap yard on Saginaw’s West Side, the success of the federal “Cash for Clunkers” program is evident in the pile of gas guzzlers headed to a metal shredder.
The Rifkin Scrap Iron and Metal Co., 1445 N. Niagara, had more than two dozen old vans, cars and pickups delivered Friday under the Car Allowance Rebate System. The cars will be ground into scrap metal by Rifkin.
